If you’re a forward-thinking homeowner looking to save money on energy bills, you have come to the right place. A dependable solar array can supply your home with many kilowatts of clean, renewable electricity while saving money on your monthly electric bill. It can also save your bacon in the event of a power outage when combined with an energy storage system.
As more and more people discover the benefits of solar power, homeowners throughout the Greater Houston area and all across Texas are turning to solar energy to power their homes. Texas is one of the best states in the nation for making the switch to solar power affordable for its residents; Texas achieves this through its generous solar incentive programs. Houston ranks #1 in the world for renewable energy use, which is not surprising, given that it is the reigning Energy Capital of the World.
The price of installing a new solar array depends on several factors. Here are a few:

The Houston area gives you many reasons to choose solar panels for your home. The state of Texas has many days of Sunshine each year, making it easy for residents to generate solar power. Also, all of the interest in solar has led to many improvements in solar technology, making it more efficient and thus, affordable. The State of Texas has offered many financial incentives to residents for going solar. And solar batteries can be called upon during power outages as well. But the most important benefit of going solar is the money you’ll save on your electric bill.
We Offer a No Cost System.
We Pay for the Solar Panels.
We Pay for the Installation.
Once the financing is approved and the permits are granted, installation typically takes less than one day. Our team of expert technicians arrives in the morning to begin work, and is done by early to mid-afternoon. We may need additional time if homeowners want a larger array, or if there are other site-specific considerations. The project can also take longer if there are obstructions that need to be removed (e.g. trees), or if the house needs a new roof. We typically address these issues prior to installation, as they don’t require permits.
At 100K Solar, we wish to emphasize that throughout this process, we will work hard to make sure that you understand each step, and why it is necessary. And once we are done, we will show you how to use your system, and help you troubleshoot any issues that may arise moving forward. We go the extra mile to help you recognize your system’s potential. By helping our homeowners learn to take charge of their system, they are better equipped to make it their own and enjoy it. This level of care also enables them to take better care of it.
If you are considering the switch to solar panels for your home, there is excellent news. The State of Texas and the federal government have approved a number of financial incentives to make switching to solar a no-brainer. Given the abundance of sunlight and the favorable energy market, switching to solar will be one of the easiest and best decisions you will make as a homeowner. We will explore these one at a time:
If you are planning to purchase a new solar array for your home, now is the time to make that happen. Until the end of December 2022, the federal government is offering a generous 26% of the cost of your system (labor and equipment) in the form of a reduction in your tax bill. For example, if your system costs $20,000, and your tax liability is $8,000, you can reduce your tax liability by 26% of the cost of your system, or $5,200. So for that year, your tax liability would only be $4,800.
This incentive will drop to 22% in 2023, and will disappear in 2024, so now is the best time to make your move if you want to go solar. If you want to know more about the solar federal tax credit for homeowners, click here.
Net metering is a feature of the billing agreement between most energy providers and their customers who own solar panels. It offers consumers credit for any excess electricity produced by their solar panels. So within any given period, if your home’s solar array produces more power than your home has required, then that excess power returns to the grid, supplying the company and its customers. You might think of it as if you were making your electric meter run backwards during overproduction.
A number of different studies have shown that purchasing an array of solar panels for your home will substantially improve its value. A comprehensive report from the US Department of Energy working with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) shows that adding solar panels enables you to sell your home more quickly, and get more money for it. The DOE and Berkeley Laboratory produced a second study with similar findings; it shows that homes with solar panels had a higher asking price than those without. A third study conducted by NREL found that properties with solar panels tend to spend less time on the market than those without. The same study showed that those homes closed at an average of 17% higher than their non-solar counterparts.
Given that the purchase of a new solar system would likely increase your home’s value significantly, you might expect to pay more in property taxes each year after buying one. However, in Texas, that is not the case. The increase in value provided by your solar array cannot be taxed. That’s significant, because your solar panels can easily raise your home’s value by 20 times your annual electric bill. Now imagine how much that would increase your property tax. Then imagine not having to pay that tax. This is another fantastic incentive for people to go solar.
If your neighborhood has a homeowner’s association or similar property owner’s association, those organizations sometimes have rules that restrict the addition of solar panels to your home. However, because Texas has a law that grants homeowners the right to have solar panels, you can add them anyway (provided they adhere to the HOA’s home improvement guidelines).
